An oldie but a Goldie. This was my first recipe on my old website and oh my god, this recipe was sooo confusing! I had to rewrite it a little bit because I couldn’t even follow it XD. Anyways, this recipe as the name already says consists of two doughs: one chocolate and one vanilla. I just love this combination!

Health fact: Cashews
With their mildly nutty flavour and slightly buttery, yet crunchy texture, cashews are one of the most popular types of nuts. But it is not only because of their taste that it is worthwhile to reach for the kernels more often. As a trader who sells nuts, we are not allowed by law to make health-related statements about cashews, but we can tell you what vital and nutritious substances the nuts contain.
Their high content of high-quality vegetable protein makes them a popular source of protein. With a protein content of about 18g per 100g, they are especially important for people who abstain from animal products. Athletes also like to reach for the protein-rich seeds. They are also rich in unsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Cashews are also a good source of magnesium and phosphorus. These minerals are important for muscles, nerves, teeth and bones. Due to their high content of B vitamins, cashews are also often called ideal nerve food.
With almost 290mg of L-tryptophan per 100g, cashews are one of the best sources of L-tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid. In the body, serotonin is produced from it. This messenger substance is also known colloquially as the happiness hormone, as it is said to have an antidepressant and relaxing effect.

- 100 ml plant based milk
- 10 ml oil e.g. coconut oil
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 90 g spelt flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp vanilla
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 tsp cocoa
- 1 tsp maple syrup
Instructions
- Mash one banana with a fork. Add 3 tsp cashew butter, 100ml plant based milk, 10ml oil and 1 tsp apple cider vinegar and mix it well.
- In another bowl, add 90g spelt flour, 1 tsp baking powder, ½ tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp vanilla and one pinch of salt and mix it. Add the milk mixture (step 1) to the flour and stir until you have a smooth batter.
- Put half of the batter in another bowl and add 2 tsp cocoa and 1 tsp maple syrup. Stir again until the cocoa powder has dissolved. Add a dash of milk if necessary.
- Preheat and grease the waffle iron. Now alternate one tablespoon of the light and one tablespoon of the dark batter on the waffle iron and let the waffle bake out. With the square waffle irons, they took about 5 minutes.
- Lastly top as desired. I used more cashew butter, melted chocolate and buckwheat seeds.
